An overview to how the profile ranks work, how to level up and some frequently asked questions.
In 2015, Valve introduced the Profile Ranking System. This is a basic system that allows you to rank up and earn rewards by playing official games and earning experience points. You profile Rank does not relate to your skill or affect your ability to play in Casual Games mode. However, Rank 2 is required to beginning playing competitive matchmaking.
In total, there are 40 profile ranks. Upon reaching rank 40, the player has the ability reset their rank to 0, in exchange for a “Service Medal.” Doing so will add the Service Medal to your inventory. Fortunately, upon resetting your rank, you do not need to re-level to level 2 in order to play in competitive matchmaking.
Each game mode has its own experience earned per game.
Arms Race: 1.0 x Score
Casual: 4.0 x Score
Competitive: 30 x Rounds Won
Deathmatch: 0.2 x Score
Demolition: 2.5 x Score
Note: If a player receive too much experience each week, their multiplier will be reduced.
TLDR: There are 40 total ranks. After Rank 1, all levels take 5,000 Experience (XP) to achieve the next level.
