Learn to tweak the appearance of your in-game radar to help increase you map awareness.
Setting up your radar can have a huge impact on your team play and map awareness. Luckily, there are 3 easy settings to get your radar set up for success. There are numerous other options which I will talk about at the end of this article, but the 3 most essential are as follows. Open up a local server with bots and test out the settings to find a comfortable fit for yourself.
This setting, found in Gameplay Settings > Radar, allows you to make the entire Radar box larger, making it much easier to see the map. You can adjust this in the Settings menu or in console by types
cl_hud_radar_scale value. The default value is
1, and we recommend somewhere between
1.1 - 1.25.
Also found in Radar Settings, this allows your to control the size of the map within your radar box. By default, the game can be too zoomed in to see the entire map. Try zooming out until you can see the entire map or most of it. In console you can adjust this by using
cl_radar_scale value. By default, it is set to
0.7. Try something between
To make the map always centered to the radar window, you need to simply paste
cl_radar_always_centered 0 into the console. This makes the center of the map centered to the radar window as opposed to your icon being at the center. This helps give you a better view of the full map, rather than your surroundings.
